Last week’s scanner debate pushed me to lock a single preset: “300 dpi, B/W, duplex” with file split at 15–20 MB; , nothing kills a scanback like a bloated 600 dpi color PDF. If you do remote scanbacks, pick a model with a TWAIN driver so the title portals play nice — my non‑TWAIN unit kept timing out until I swapped drivers. NNA has a quick refresher here: Notary Bulletin | NNA — has anyone had a lender require true 600 dpi?

I’m running 200 dpi grayscale with deskew and blank-page removal; keeps 150-page scanbacks under about 10 MB for those 25 MB portal caps. IDs get scanned separately in color and merged, and I skip OCR — only flip it on if title asks for “searchable”. @silver.runner I’m with you on duplex, but I’ll bump to 300 only when lender specs require it.

Quick tip from last week: on my ScanSnap iX1600 I use ‘Text’ + ‘Reduce File Size (MRC)’ with OCR on, and 150-page scanbacks land around 8–12 MB for those 25 MB caps while staying readable. , double-feeds killed me until I enabled ultrasonic detection and set ‘multi-feed retry’ to 1. Anyone else seeing certain portals strip OCR on upload, or is that just me, @Maya?

I keep blank-page removal sensitivity on ‘low’ so faint watermarks and light letterhead don’t get tossed — saved me from a redraw once; if the set uses separator sheets, I switch it off for that batch…
