Seeing more on-the-spot scan-backs lately, and my little Epson ES-50 is crawling and sometimes chewing pages - total time sink. If you’ve upgraded to a faster, reliable portable scanner (USB-powered is fine), what’s working for you, and is there a stamp/ink combo that won’t smear on glossy forms? I’m over smudgy seals and waiting 10 minutes to scan a packet.
Brother ADS‑1250W has been the least fussy for me - USB‑powered, true duplex around 25 ppm, and jams stopped once I squared the stack and used the guides. For glossy forms, use a traditional rubber stamp with a separate pad inked with Noris 191 quick‑dry black; it sets in a few seconds and won’t smear, and I’d avoid putting that ink in self‑inking pads.
I ditched the ES‑50 for a Canon P‑215II — still USB‑powered, duplex, and with a cheap carrier sheet I haven’t had a chew‑up since; if your laptop has it, use the Y‑cable so it keeps full speed. For glossy seals, a traditional rubber stamp with a StazOn Jet Black pad sets fast and doesn’t smear (just carry the cleaner). Do you need TWAIN support for your scan‑backs, or is a straight PDF dump fine?
