ID in a bag of rice

Showed up for a 7 pm loan mod and the signer handed me a driver’s license sealed in a Ziploc full of rice — ‘it went for a swim earlier’ — then asked if a Costco card counts as the second ID… Tried not to stamp the bag by reflex; anyone else?

I ask them to take it out so I can feel the holograms; if the laminate’s bubbled or the data’s smeared, I stop and use a credible witness (if allowed) or reschedule — rice is for phones, not IDs. For the “Costco card” second ID, I treat that as a no unless the lender’s sheet lists it; quick ref: https://www.nationalnotary.org/notary-bulletin/blog/acceptable-forms-of-identification. Did they have a passport card or a clean utility bill for the lender’s two-ID requirement?

Had this at a 7 pm mod — I carry a pocket UV light and check the DL’s UV seals after it ‘went for a swim’ in that Ziploc; if they pop, we sign, if not I pivot to a passport. Caveat: in my state a Costco card doesn’t count, so I don’t use it. What state are you in?

@mimo938 Once out of Ziploc rice, I loupe microprint; warehouse card never counts, so I ask for another ID.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

Quick fix I use: @mimo938 I have them rinse the DL to clear the rice dust, pat it with a lint-free wipe, then hit it with my phone light at a low angle so the tactile numbers and ghost image pop — if it still looks cloudy, I give it 10 minutes by a fan before deciding; ever try that?

, the “it went for a swim” Ziploc at 7 pm is peak chaos. I keep a tiny can of compressed air in my kit — quick blast dries the surface so I can feel the raised text and then cross-check the printed data against the PDF417 barcode with a scanner app. And yeah, the club card’s a no from me; if the laminate’s lifting or the code won’t read, I pivot to a passport per instructions.

And had this exact 7 pm energy — my move is to slide the damp DL into a clear badge sleeve so I can tilt it under a penlight and read the hologram without handling it. Costco card usually doesn’t fly with my lenders; I ask for a bank or insurance card with the same name unless the instructions demand two government IDs. @mimo938 ever tried the sleeve trick?

Had an ID in the “rice pilaf edition” last week — I set it on a silica gel pack in a clean envelope for two minutes, then hit it with a tiny UV keychain light to verify the state seal without handling it. Costco card still doesn’t fly for me, so I ask for a passport card or two credible witnesses if your state allows; @mimo938, ever try the UV trick?
