Best quick ID tools for mobile notaries

Night signings: how do you check ID details fast without fumbling? Confession: I used to rely on my phone flashlight and I’d squint at DOBs at 8 pm kitchen tables, but a flat 3x magnifier card with a tiny LED works better since the glare from glossy cards drives me nuts.

Clip a small warm-LED book light to your folder and aim from the side. low brightness kills glare and frees both hands. Glare from cold phone LEDs keeps showing up, so warm matters. Pair it with a 4x jeweler’s loupe for tiny DOB fonts. If you use the phone, drop brightness and bounce off a white page for diffuse light.

Stick a tiny matte diffuser over your light (a bit of frosted tape works) and aim it at a 30-45° angle - glare drops to almost nothing. I also keep a 365 nm UV penlight clipped on to pop the security features in a second without blasting the card.

A warm, low-power neck light plus a 5x folding linen tester makes DOB/expiration checks quick and hands‑free with almost no glare. I also drop a thin silicone pad under the card so it doesn’t skate on glossy tables and keep the light at about 30° so the holograms and microprint pop.
